About

The Niner Times is UNC Charlotte's student-run news publication founded in 1947 and has recieved both state and national recognition.

The Niner Times aims to provide accurate and fair news to the UNC Charlotte community. We cover campus happenings, news and events in the city of Charlotte and North Carolina and topics that are important to students. We publish written, photo and video content online (ninertimes.com), on social media and through our weekly email newsletter (sent every Tuesday at 9:30 am). We also produce a supplemental bi-weekly (every other week) in-print newspaper that hits stands on Tuesdays.

The Niner Times is a department within UNC Charlotte's Student Niner Media Advising and Support organization with four other student-run departments.

At the Niner Times, we are committed to continuous growth and actively welcome change. As our campus and community evolves, so do we. Since the founding of our campus, Charlotte's news publication has had a variety of different names.

Editorial Board

All Niner Times is managed by members of the editorial board (section and assistant editors) and is then overseen by the editor-in-chief and managing editor.

For our full editorial board, please click here.

Sunnya (she/her) is the editor-in-chief for the Niner Times. She is in her fourth year as an international studies and data science double major with a minor in security and intelligence studies. On the side, Sunnya loves to take photos and do graphic design. She can also speak Farsi and Japanese and plans to learn more languages in her free time. Her favorite things are the color green, cats, space and pizza. The weirdest (and best) pizza topping she ever ate was lemon.

Monique (she/her) is the managing editor for Niner Times. She is in her third year and is a double major in Communications and English with a minor in WRDS. Monique is a first generation American and is bilingual in Afrikaans (South Africa). Outside of being managing editor, she spends her time taking care of her plants, reading or meditating. She loves the color green, rainy weather and finding antiques. If you can’t find her in the newsroom, you might see her taking a walk in the Botanical gardens.
