April (She/ Her) is the editor-in-chief for the Niner Times. She is in her fourth year as a communication studies major with minors in journalism and writing, rhetoric and digital studies. Born and raised in Charlotte, when April isn’t sitting in front of a computer putting a newspaper together, you can find her as a dance teacher at her hometown studio, Dance Fever. She enjoys chasing sunsets, obsessing over elephants and eating Mexican food. She is also always on aux no matter the occasion and hates when people question her music taste. If you think you see Billie Eilish on campus, it’s just April. 

Vasiliki (She/Her) is the managing editor for the Niner Times. She is in her second year as a Creative Writing major with a minor in Technical and Professional Writing. Vasiliki was born in Thessaloniki, Greece and speaks Greek and German. She loves writing and reading poetry and has been published in Roars and Whispers and Carolina Muse. Aside from all things English, Vasiliki loves horror movies, thrifting, and spending too much time organizing her spotify playlists. Vasiliki also works in the Student Union Art Gallery so swing by and say hey!

Brandon Mitchell (He/Him) is the layout editor for the Niner Times. He is in his final semester as a communication studies major, and has minors in journalism and German. He tries his best to not be overly defined by any one characteristic, but will defend country music to his grave. He runs Uptown Audio and wants to make podcasts for a living – NPR not Joe Rogan. He wants to make an impact, but he’s mainly just here for a good time. 

Zoya Zalevskiy (They/Them) is one of our assistant layout editors. They are a third year political science major with minors in journalism and international studies. They love funky earrings, the color green and are very avid about taking bugs outside rather than killing them. When they’re not scrolling through fonts or designing pages, you can find them volunteering at the campus botanical gardens or watching bad Netflix originals. They hope to pursue a career in political journalism and incorporate their desire to travel and passion for graphic design and layout.

Sunnya is one of our assistant layout editors for the Niner Times. She is a sophomore majoring in international studies with a minor in security and intelligence studies. On the side, she spends her time doing photojournalism and graphic design. When not busy with studies or layout, she can be found binge-watching shows and eating pizza. She also hopes to learn multiple languages like Japanese, but in the meantime, she can rap every word to Juice Wrld’s Flaws and Sins.

Max (He/Him) is the copy editor for the Niner Times. He is in his final semester at UNC Charlotte as a communication studies major, with minors in journalism and political science. As a Cary, North Carolina native, he is naturally a huge Carolina Hurricanes fan. He enjoys playing with his Welsh terrier, Murphy, watching hockey or hanging out with friends. Max is also the Show Coordinator for Uptown Audio. Fun fact, he’s ordained!

Isabella (she/her) is the assistant copy editor for the Niner Times and is a senior, majoring in English and minoring in Writing, Rhetoric and Digital Studies. She loves tacos, walking in Romare Bearden Park and reading obscure thriller novels. After graduating, she wants to find an editorial job in Charlotte and pursue her graduate degree in Writing or Linguistics, she hasn’t decided yet. In the further future, she wants to live in Boston and drink all the coffee and read all the books. She has two dogs, four cats and also bakes some fire lasagna. 

Madison (She/Her) is the news editor of the Niner Times. She is in her fifth year studying political science and Spanish, with a minor in women’s and gender studies. On top of being a journalist, she also works at a local coffee shop, which means she has a caffeine problem and a strong opinion on the Oxford comma. If you meet her, she’ll probably try to convince you to watch her favorite TV shows or listen to Taylor Swift. 

Jessica is the assistant news editor for the Niner Times. She is in her third year as a communication studies major with a minor in journalism at UNC Charlotte. She is a military kid (so, no true hometown) and has lived in six different states growing up. She loves to edit papers and read books. On occasion, she will take photos, paint or sketch. Her other hobbies include extreme organization projects and volunteering at the local food bank. She loves to try new foods and visit new places across the country. She also lives on coffee. 

Bradley (he/him/his) is the sports editor for the Niner Times. He is a fourth-year communications major with a minor in journalism at Charlotte.  He grew up in Hendersonville, NC and enjoys the small town atmosphere it has. Some of his favorite activities include working, watching an unhealthy amount of sports and going to random coffee shops. When Bradley isn't editing articles, you can catch Bradley selling trains at your local Lionel retails store. 

Bryson Foster is the assistant sports editor for the Niner Times. He is a third-year communication major with a double minor in journalism and film studies at Charlotte.  He grew up in Concord, North Carolina, in the heart of NASCAR country. He is an avid sports fan who pulls for the Cincinnati Bengals, Chase Elliott, the North Carolina Tarheels, and most importantly, the Charlotte 49ers. Some of his favorite activities include watching sports and hanging out with friends whenever he can. Outside of being a journalist, Bryson is a brand ambassador for Quantum Rehab helping fight for accessibility for wheelchair users.

Emily is the arts & culture editor for the Niner Times. She is a junior majoring in elementary education with minors in journalism and Spanish. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and has lived in Sydney, Australia before moving to Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She is an animal lover but especially loves pigs. Emily loves traveling, shopping especially at local shops in different cities and thrifting, watching movies, exercising, working with kids, reading books and drinking iced coffee.

Jake is the assistant arts & culture editor for Niner Times. He is a senior majoring in English with a Language and Digital Technology concentration and minoring in Writing, Rhetoric and Digital Studies. He enjoys listening to music, going on walks/runs, and playing video games. He is always open to any and all who want to challenge him to a Pokémon battle. 

Hiral (She/ Her) is the opinion editor for the Niner Times. She is double majoring in political science and economics with a minor in capitalism studies and she is also working towards a certification in LEADS. After undergrad, her plans are to go to law school and become a corporate lawyer. Hiral is a die-hard Boston Celtics fan, she loves the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and if you see her outside of school, you probably are in a boba shop.

Isaac  (He/Him) is the assistant opinion editor for the Niner Times (with some hot takes). He is a third-year student majoring in communications studies, with minors in journalism and africana studies. Endearingly dubbed the “Queen City King” by family and friends, Isaac has lived in many different neighborhoods all over Charlotte. He enjoys drawing cartoons, cooking fried rice and tacos and getting more than two hours of sleep per night (if he’s lucky). After graduation, Isaac plans to move to Washington, D.C. to pursue either graduate studies in journalism or law school. 

Tyler (he/him/his) is the community editor for the Niner Times. He is a graduate architecture student in his final year. When Tyler isn’t perusing social media or writing about movies, you can find him listening to some obscure indie band you’ve never heard of. He enjoys cooking new recipes, sitting in a dark movie theater on a rainy day and all things Star Wars. After he graduates (again), he hopes to pursue a career related to architecture and film.

María (she/her/hers) is the video editor for the Niner Times. She is a senior, communication studies major with a journalism minor and she’s also trying to get a certification on Spanish translation. Born and raised in Madrid, Spain, María treats every day in the US like an adventure, but she also loves her family and everything from back home. Recently, she has gotten into k-pop recently, so you will constantly see her with her headphones, listening to BTS. Don’t hesitate to talk to her about video filming/editing. Spanish cuisine or BTS because she could go on for hours!

Beth is the Assistant Video Editor for the Niner Times and a sophomore majoring in communication studies with a public advocacy track.  As a native of Charlotte Elizabeth loves to explore the city and take pictures and video. When she is not writing for the Niner Times she is doing creative writing of her own, binge watching television, or just hanging out with friends. Her pronouns are she/her/hers.

Niyathi (she/her/hers) is the photo editor for the Niner Times. She is a senior majoring in psychology with a double minor in cognitive science and criminal justice. Although born and raised in Maryland, Niyathi enjoys exploring Charlotte and trying new restaurants. When not taking photos for the Niner Times, you can find Niyathi teaching group fitness classes at UREC or hanging out with her friends. Post-graduation, Niyathi plans to pursue a career in health psychology.
