The International Student and Scholar Office (ISSO) is following UNC Charlotte’s COVID-19 measures and restrictions. In order to ensure international students’ health and safety, here is the new update on their services and programs:
The ISSO has confirmed with UNC Charlotte and with U.S. Inmigration that any face-to-face classes that are moving to alternative instructional methods in response to COVID-19 will continue to count as face-to-face classes for immigration purposes.
The ISSO strongly discourages all international students from departing the U.S. prior to the completion of the Spring 2020 semester.
However, if students decide to leave the U.S., the following risks may arise:
It is possible that students will be unable to return to the U.S. this semester as embassies from around the world are using limited services or closing due to COVID-19. This ban is even applicable to valid F-1 and J-1 visas.
Students may lose eligibility for OPT/CPT if they are unable to re-enter the U.S.
Students may lose tuition/credits and/or may experience course sequencing issues.
Students must talk to their ISSO advisors before deciding to travel outside of the U.S. at this time.
All current South Village residents are requested to remove their belongings:
Hunt, Laurel and Levine residents were required to retrieve their belongings by April 5.
Holshouser, Scott and Sanford residents will be able to schedule an appointment with a prior notification that will be sent by April 7.
If residents cannot or do not wish to retrieve their belongings, they are able to indicate their decision to decline a check-out appointment through their Housing and Residence Life account. A third party moving company will pack, move and store their belongings at no additional cost.
The University recently released information about a Pass/No Credit option for academic courses. Students will be able to select this option after the semester ends in May.
ISSO offers phone advising appointments on Mondays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
I-20 pickups are not available at this time. Students must visit the Create a Shipment Page to set up an express I-20 shipment if necessary.
