The Charlotte 49ers (13-14, 2-8 C-USA) were swept 3-0 (20-25, 16-25, 13-25) at Marshall (15-9, 6-6 C-USA) on Sunday.
The first set started out as a back-and-forth battle with eight ties and three lead changes. After falling behind by three, the Niners pulled it back within one point at 18-19. Two kills from Sydney Rowan kept the 49ers close, but a few more Marshall kills ended the game at 20-25 win.
The Herd began the second set on a 7-3 run. The 49ers came back as they got to within two at 11-13. The next few points went back-and-forth before Marshall finished on a 5-0 run to win the second set 16-25.
Marshall used their momentum to start the third set on a big 12-3 run. The closest the 49ers got was within eight at 11-19 before Marshall ended on a 6-2 run to get the sweep.
Molly Shaw led the 49ers with eight kills, Jocelyn Stoner added seven while Rowan recorded six. Annika Wetterstrom tallied a game-high 24 assists while Yumi Garcia registered 16 digs.
Charlotte will head to Ruston, La. to face Louisiana Tech on Friday, Nov. 8 at 8 p.m.
