Charlotte 49ers, who are ranked No. 9, got their fourth-straight win Tuesday by taking down the Furman Paladins 2-1.
In the 32nd minute, after five shots from the Niners, the 49ers finally found the back of the net when freshman Axel Sigurdarson was fouled by Furman Goalkeeper Max Fisher in the box. That gave the Niners a penalty kick. Senior Teddy Chaouche converted the penalty kick for his third penalty goal of the season and his sixth overall goal of the season. Furman finally picked up the pace with three shots of their own. The only problem was that none of them could find the back of the net.
In the 73rd minute, Furman's Alfredo Diaz Santillan tied the score at 1-1 with a goal from Jacob Garzon’s assist. However, it did not take long for the Niners to equalize in the 79th minute. Sigurdarson scored his second goal of the season by blasting a shot into the lower right corner of the goal from 15 yards out.
Charlotte led the way in shots with 15 compared to Furman’s 10. Sophomore Preston Popp led the 49ers in shots with four. The Niners had 12 corner kicks to the Paladins two.
The Niners will return to conference play this Saturday against the Florida Atlantic Owls in Boca Raton, Fla. at 7:00 p.m.
