The Charlotte 49ers extended their six-game win streak on Oct. 17 in their final road game of the season with a 2-1 victory over the UAB Blazers.

In the sixth minute, Charlotte got their first goal of the night as freshman Julia Patrum scored the fourth goal of her career. The Niners continued to put pressure on UAB goalkeeper Eve Beyer with five shots; the first one went wide and the next four were saved by Beyer. During the rest of the first half, the match was even, with both teams registering just two shots each.

The match continued to stay even for the first 20 minutes until the 76th minute when the Niners scored their second goal of the game. Junior Brianna Morris scored her first goal of the season by scoring off of a corner kick into the top right corner of the goal. UAB attempted to make a comeback in the 84th minute when freshman Asha Zuniga scored her first career goal off a penalty kick. After that, the Niner defense would prevail. UAB could only register a single shot in the closing five minutes.

Charlotte led the game in shots with 14 to UAB’s nine. Charlotte senior Jamie Fankhauser led the game in shots with five. Each keeper had five saves.

Charlotte will begin a three-game homestand next Thursday, Oct. 24 when they take on the UTEP Miners. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
