Coming off of a tough loss earlier this week to UNC Asheville, the Charlotte 49ers are looking for a bounce-back win tonight as they take on UNC Wilmington on Saturday, Dec. 7th.

UNCW (5-5) will be the fifth in-state opponent of the year for the 49ers. They have gone 2-2 in such games. Charlotte will be looking for their first road win against a Seahawk team has that gone 4-1 at home and has only lost against North Carolina in their own arena. However, UNCW is coming off of two straight losses.

Charlotte is getting closer to ending the road woes that have plagued them to start the season. They had an impressive showing at Georgia State where they put up 78 points in a three-point loss.

In their 83-75 loss to UNCA, Charlotte stayed close throughout the game but couldn’t get the job done.

The 49ers’ last game before a week of rest will take place at 2 p.m. and will be broadcast on FloHoops.

Players to Watch

Drew Edwards, Charlotte: The graduate transfer has had a couple breakout games this year, most notably the 49ers’ last road game where he scored 24 points. A big night from the veteran is possible as he has only been getting better throughout the season.

Amidou Bamba, Charlotte: The big man has been a factor for Charlotte all season so far. After a tough two-game stretch, don’t be surprised if Bamba is a threat on both offense and defense. He had a double-double in the last road game against Georgia State and could be the X-factor for Charlotte in the post.

Jaylen Sims, UNC-Wilmington: The 6'6" sophomore has proved to be a scorer for the Seahawks. He is averaging a team-best 15.1 points per game. Sims had a breakout game against N.C. Wesleyan with 26 points off 10-13 shooting. The athletic guard needs to be watched closely by the Charlotte defense.

Keys to a victory

Keeping racking up blocks

Charlotte’s big men have been getting the job done lately with 21 blocks over the last three games. They had nine in just one game at Georgia State and with multiple impressive shooters on UNCW, another block party will be needed.

Spread the wealth

Charlotte has enjoyed having multiple big-time scorers this season. The 49ers have had two games where they had four players scoring in double digits, the most recent being against UNC-Asheville. Edwards, Jahmir Young and Jordan Shepard are all capable of having such games. Having multiple options against a tough UNCW defense will be a big help for Charlotte.
